OPC is Hiring a Biodiversity Program Manager – Apply by November 10, 2022

OPC is hiring an Environmental Scientist to help lead its efforts to enhance coastal, marine, and estuarine biodiversity in California.  The Environmental Scientist will advance these strategic priorities, as outlined in the Strategic Plan to Protect California’s Coast and Ocean, in coordination with OPC staff, state and federal agencies, California Native American tribes, local governments, scientists, non-profits, community members, and others. The Environmental Scientist will also be responsible for grant and contract management including developing scopes of work and budgets, tracking deliverables, and coordinating with grantees. The Environmental Scientist will also provide additional support and capacity for OPC’s other strategic priorities, as needed.

Join our team!Applicants should have a strong scientific background, working knowledge of coastal and ocean issues and stakeholders in California, and experience working on projects and/or research related to coastal, marine, and estuarine ecosystems in California or elsewhere. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks is a must. Specific knowledge and experience related to the land-sea interface, habitat restoration and protection, marine protected areas, biological and environmental monitoring, data management and analysis, and proficiency in reading and speaking Spanish are preferred.  Experience working with the state’s natural resource management agencies is beneficial but not required.

Flexible Work Schedule: This position is considered Remote-Centered, which means the incumbent would telework 50% or more of the time within a work month from an alternate work location. The position incumbent can telework with a management-approved telework agreement and schedule. OPC staff are required to work from the office in Sacramento a minimum of two days a month.
