Sea-level Rise, Coastal Flooding and State Work on Implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program

California Department of Water Resources, in coordination with the Ocean Science Trust (OST) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, is currently working on a California-focused pilot project to provide information that local communities and agencies could use for consideration in compliance with both existing and future California policies related to sea-level rise and coastal flooding and potential future regulatory directives from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). A needs assessment has been completed, and other products being developed include a coastal appendix to the California Quick Guide on the NFIP, a technical methods manual, and a comprehensive report tying together the information. Information is currently posted on OST’s website here.
